CHOC - Childhood Cancer Foundation - South Africa
Brad Roets a Clifton Nottingham Road teacher is riding the CHOC Monster Biathlon to honour his good friend Craig Bainbridge who died from cancer in 2011. His story goes ..... Even through Craig's chemo and radio therapy, he remained positive enough to train and ride the 94.7 Cycle Tour as a member of hte CHOC Cows, raising money for children's cancer treatment and support. This got me thinking - I am an able bodied, fit individual who does nothing to help those who are in need. I must admit, I felt guilty. So I dreamed up this crazy event.
I am cycling solo, from Johannesburg to Midmar dam (600km) over the course of four days and thereafter will complete 8 crossings of the dam, completing the Midmar 8 Mile Challenge. ... Read More

I am cycling solo, from Johannesburg to Midmar dam (600km) over the course of four days and thereafter will complete 8 crossings of the dam, completing the Midmar 8 Mile Challenge. This will take place from the 7th to the 12th of February 2012. Follow my progress on Twitter or Facebook, but most importantly please donate and change a child's life. This year my target is to raise R100,000 to contribute towards this amazing charity.
Umthombo Street Children - Durban South Africa
South Africa, like many other countries, is grappling with the fact that, due to various socio-economic situations, groups of children find themselves living on the streets, largely fending for themselves in order to survive. Umthombo is an organisation based in Durban, South Africa that empowers street children and aims to change the way that society perceives and treats them. Umthombo’s Durban model is pioneering the idea of providing alternatives to street life through engagement and therapeutic interventions and focuses on addressing the traumas associated with the children’s experiences. Umthombo’s team is a fusion of social working professionals and trained former street children who have a unique understanding of the realities of the street child experience and an incredible relationship of trust and respect with the children. Granny Mouse Country House & Spa have become one of the founding group of KZN based restaurants that have adopted the "Food 4 Thought" programme in an effort to contributed to the phenominal work done by the Umthombo organisation.
Umthombo is a fully registered section 21 company and non-profit organisation. It was founded in 1998 and formerly called the Durban Street Team. In 2005 it was renamed Umthombo Street Children.
